Botanical Name Urginea indica
Common Name Jungli pyaz, lal pyaaz

A small, glabrous herb with a pale, ovoid or pear-shaped bulb which is 5 to 10 cm long.

The bulb has been found to contain hentriacontanol, octacosanoic acid, glycosides and scillaren A and B.  Roots and leaves contain sitosterol, stigmasterol and campasterol, while the tuber contains scillarenin.

Medicinal Properties of the Plant: cyanogenetic and expectorant.

Medicinal Properties of the bulb: anthelmintic, alexiteric, expectorant, cardiac, heart stimulant, diuretic, deobstruent and emmenagogue.

Medicinal Uses:

It enhances excretory Products Removal, it helps in opening the natural pores of the body. This herb enhances removal of catarrhal matter. Becoz of diuretic properties, it helps to increase the urine volume.

It removes phlegm from the body in case of bronchial catarrh, asthma and chronic bronchitis. Juice of the herb is taken with honey.

It controls irregular Menstruation.

The bulb is used for dropsy cure. Bulb also cures headaches and diseases of the nose. This is also used to treat various other diseases such as rheumatism, chronic nephritis, ringworm, leprosy and scabies.
