Kaffir Lime

Kaffir limes is the common name of Citrus hystrix, a tropical fruit that is native to various parts of Asia. Aside from its many culinary uses, due to its uniquely tart and pleasant flavor, kaffir lime is also highly respected for its medicinal uses, due to its high content of beneficial organic compounds that can positively affect the body’s systems. The oil, leaves, fruit, and rind of kaffir limes are all utilized for different purposes.

Its strong flavor is due to the high concentration of alkaloids, citronellol, limonene, nerol, and other organic compounds in kaffir limes. Not only do these provide the unique aroma and flavor, but also the wide range of health benefits. The extracted oil from the leaves, as well as the leaves themselves, are commonly used for medicinal purposes. The oil is often mixed into shampoos, soaps, salves, fragrances, and other cosmetic products, while the leaves are usually applied topically or orally to induce a specific healthy result.

Lime is a staple in Ayurveda. Lime’s energetics is sour, and slightly bitter, cold, and sweet. Its juice is a digestive stimulant; its peel is a stomachic, expectorant, and stimulant. Lime combats the negative side effects of alcohol (which is, perhaps, why its often served alongside tequila), fights malaria, and its peel stimulates the liver.

Lime is prescribed as a remedy in Ayurveda for the following:

  • Appetite improvement
  • Digestion and mineral absorption
  • Acidic indigestion
  • Heartburn, nausea, and hyperacidity
  • Burning of the urethra
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol

Note: We advise that natural products be consumed in their pristine form, without any preservatives or processing chemicals, unless a preparation is advised by an Ayurvedic doctor.

It gives maximum health benefits and keeps costs low (compared to the huge medical costs due to modern diseases.)
